Aigars Gozitis (LL.M. in European and International Law, Riga Graduate School of Law) has joined Lejins Torgans & Partners starting December 2006. For last four years Aigars has worked as a legal adviser with the Central Bank of Latvia. Aigars will concentrate on Banking & Finance work joining RoschierRaidla Banking & Finance Practice Group.

IFLR1000 2007 edition once again has listed Lejins Torgans & Partners as one of the two top ranking Latvian law firms in both practice areas surveyed by the publication. The firm has scored the highest ranking in Banking & Finance and Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions.
The publication states: "The market was united this year in recommending that Lejins Torgans & Partners should keep its tier one ranking in both practice areas".

Kristine Krumina (LL.M. in European Commercial Law, Humboldt-University Berlin) has joined Lejins, Torgans & Partners starting October 2006. Kristine has worked as a lawyer with SIA Microlink Latvia and as a lawyer with AS Lindeks. Kristine will concentrate on General Corporate and Employment matters joining RoschierRaidla General Corporate practice group.

The State Chancellery of Latvia on 4 and 5 September 2006 is organizing an international conference Topicalities in International Commercial Arbitration.
Our office together with several other law offices is supporting organization of the conference. Our partner Girts Lejins shall deliver a presentation on the Tendencies in Arbitration in Central and Eastern Europe.

Two new lawyers have joined Lejins Torgans & Partners, starting August 2006.
Jevgenijs Salims, LL.M. in European and International Law (Riga Graduate School of Law). For the last 12 years Jevgenijs has served as a Judge in Riga Regional Court, Court of Appeals and Riga Zemgales District Court. Jevgenijs will concentrate on litigation and arbitration practice joining RoschierRaidla International Arbitration Practice Group.
Sandija Novicka, LL.M. in European and International Law (Riga Graduate School of Law). Sandija has worked as a lawyer with SIA BNT Klaubergs & Krauklis and as a lawyer with SIA Deloitte Latvia. Sandija is lecturing regularly on the topics of EU law at Riga Graduate School of Law, the Centre for Training of Judges and the School of State Administration. Sandija will concentrate on banking and finance, as well as EU matters joining RoschierRaidla Transactions and Finance Practice Group.

Our partner Prof. Kalvis Torgans, a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Latvia, has authored a textbook "Contract Law. Part I". This is the first textbook on the contract law written since the regaining of independence of the Republic of Latvia back in 1991. Prof. Torgans hopes that the textbook will serve not only as a guidance for the law students in their legal studies but also will be a useful source of information for practicing lawyers and judges.

On 20 June 2006 Lejins Torgans & Partners in association with RoschierRaidla law firms hosted an international seminar in Riga on the current trends in international arbitration and its increasing role in the field of dispute resolution in Latvia.
The seminar was a success with a wide interest from the invitees and participation of such prominent experts as Dr. Robert Briner, immediate past Chairman of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, Paris, Robert Lambert, Partner of Clifford Chance, London, and Carita Wallgren, Partner, Roschier Holmberg, Finland, a member of the Commission on International Arbitration of the ICC, Board member of the Finnish Arbitration Association.

On 18-20 May 2006 our associate Aiga Klimovica participated in the annual conference of ius laboris, the alliance of leading law firms providing specialised services in labour law, held in Copenhagen. Lejins Torgans & Partners together with other RoschierRaidla firms are exclusive ius laboris members in Finland and the Baltic States. This year's conference was primarily devoted to the topics of monitoring employees in the workplace, pensions practices, issues related to managing employment litigation, defence strategies and due diligence. Topics were discussed by the participants of the conference at the workshops and during public debates.

Two new associates have joined Lejins Torgans & Partners, starting May 2006.
Guntis Lauskis has previous experience working for several years as the Head of Legal of the Data State Inspection and as lawyer with mobile telephone operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons. Guntis will mainly concentrate on data protection, intellectual property and technology matters joining RoschierRaidla IP & Technologies Practice Group.
Maija Volkova shall graduate this spring from Stockholm University with the Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law degree. Maija will join RoschierRaidla International Arbitration Practice Group.

Legal 500 - 2006 edition has once again listed our office among the top tier Latvian law firms. Our office has been listed in all eight areas ranked (the 1st tier in five areas and the 2nd tier in three areas).
